Click "Select Users. Click "Check Names. Click "Start. Click "Start" on the alternate workstation. Enter "remote" into the search box and select "Remote Desktop Connection" from the results. Letting the Traffic Past Your Firewall Since you will be trying to connect to your PC from the local network or Internet, your firewall software must be configured to let the traffic through.
If User Account Control is enabled, select an account and enter a password, if required, and click Continue on the prompt. On the Windows Firewall Settings window that opened, click the General tab. Click the Exceptions tab and scroll down to make sure the Remote Desktop item is checked; as Figure 2 shows. On the Control Panel window, click the Security Center category.
On the Windows Security Center window that opened, near the bottom of the window, click the Windows Firewall icon. Click the Exceptions tab and scroll down to make sure the Remote Desktop item is checked. When prompted, enter the username and password of your router. Enter the port details , for each port you need to forward discussed in the previous paragraphs by entering information into the appropriate text boxes or selecting options from list boxes.
Figure 3 offers an example. For an outgoing rule, select Outbound Rules instead. Under Specific local ports , enter a port number from the following tables, and select Next. Select one or more network types to enable, including the network type for the remote connection, and then select Next. The new rule should appear and be selected in the Inbound Rules or Outbound Rules list.
The following example opens port for the remote debugger on the remote computer. The path you need to use may be different. If your domain policy requires network communication to be performed through IPSec, you must open additional ports on both the Visual Studio and remote computers.
To debug on a remote IIS web server, open port 80 on the remote computer. To allow specific apps through the Windows firewall, see Configure remote debugging through Windows Firewall.
You can install the remote debugging tools on the remote computer, or run them from a shared folder. In either case, the remote computer firewall must be configured correctly.
Select msvsmon. In the Apps list, select the Remote Debugger that you just added. Select Network types , and then select one or more network types, including the network type for the remote connection.
